Sometimes the best place to mentor a child is in a structured environment. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago’s Site Based Mentoring Programs match mentors (Bigs) with students (Littles) in a program that takes place at a school, community center, or corporate workplace.

Getting Out & About

Spending one-on-one time in the local community is primarily how the relationship develops. Each match is unique and creates a schedule that works for them, and our professionally trained staff provide support and outing ideas during the entire duration of the match. During outings, Bigs and Littles do everyday activities that provide children with the opportunity to discover a world of possibilities for their life.

  • Bigs and Littles agree to meet 2 to 4 times a month for a minimum of one year
  • Outings could include having dinner at an ethnic restaurant, going on a college tour, playing basketball, or visiting a museum
  • ¡Estamos Buscando Mentores Bilingues! We are unable to serve youth that do not have a parent that can effectively speak English so are also looking for bilingual Bigs that can help us serve the Hispanic community

Flex Mentoring is our innovative online mentoring program matching volunteers 1:1 with local high school students. It offers volunteers the flexibility to mentor on their own time and build personal connections with students across distances. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Chicago is the first in the nation to utilize the iCouldBe mentoring platform and curriculum to develop this new e-Mentoring program.

We are currently evaluating and measuring outcomes from our initial pilot sites, so are not enrolling new volunteers at this time.
